Registration Requirements

New Application Requirements of the Nova Scotia College of Chiropractors:
Please note, all documentation must be received a minimum of 1 week prior to the JE exam.

  • Email to inquiries@chiropractors.ns.ca, stating your intent to submit an application
  • NSCC Online Application Form – fully completed and notarized. NSCC must receive the original copy.
  • Successful CCEB exam results are sent to the Admission Officer of the NSCC. (The Canadian Chiropractic Examining Board conducts clinical competency exams for individuals seeking licensure to practice chiropractic in Canada.)   • For new graduates:
    • Payment of a one-time Application fee of $150.00 to the Nova Scotia College of Chiropractors payable by credit card.
    • Examination Fees: For a regular sitting, the fee is $150.00 in Canadian funds to be provided to the Nova Scotia College of Chiropractors payable by credit card
    • A $300 fee will apply for any examination administered outside of the 2 scheduled regular sittings.)
  • Official Chiropractic College transcripts to be sent directly to the Registrations Officer. [Please note: Applicants must have graduated from a CCE(C) recognized chiropractic institution.]
  • Proof of current First Aid Certification (certification card) - Minimum level of Emergency First Aid / CPR C/ AED is required
  • Three (3) reference letters – two (2) from chiropractors and one (1) other, all to be sent directly to the Registrations Officer. Reference Letters must be from an individual that has known the applicant for a minimum of one full year. The letters from chiropractors must support that the candidate is mentally and physically competent to practice chiropractic; will practice chiropractic with decency, integrity, honestly and in accordance with the law; has sufficient knowledge, skill and judgement to engage in chiropractic; and will display professional behavior. A reference letter will not be accepted from a spouse or a relative, a future employer, associate or partner.
  • Proof of age (applicant must be 21 years or older by date of registration), and proof of Canadian citizenship or legal entitlement to work in Canada – i.e. Birth Certificate or other official documentation.
  • Two (2) suitable recent color photographs – passport-style.
  • Verification of good standing in any other jurisdiction in which chiropractic registration/licensure has been held
  • CV/Resume
  • Criminal Record Check through CSI Inc. http://www.csiscreening.com
  • Applicants from outside of Canada must complete International Criminal Records Check CSI INTERNATIONAL/ US

Registration will be offered after completion of the above and successful completion of the Jurisprudence Examination and payment of all fee's has been received.

If any of the documentation outlined in the below application form are not available applicants are required to reach out to the registration officer to discuss alternative measures, which are most often digital copies of documents typically requiring an original.

Application Requirements of the Nova Scotia College of Chiropractors for Applicants from Another Regulated Province:

    All chiropractors currently registered and practicing in any province of Canada must comply with the following.

    Please note, all documentation must be received a minimum of 1 week prior to the JE exam.

    NSCC Application Form – fully completed and notarized.

    • email to inquiries@chiropractors.ns.ca stating your intention to submit an application for licensing
    • NSCC Online application form must be completed.  Form must be printed, notarized and original copy sent to NSCC Prior to JE Exam.
    • Proof of current First Aid Certification (certification card) - Minimum level of Emergency First Aid / CPR C/ AED is required
    • Two (2) suitable recent color photographs – passport-style.
    • Verification of good standing in any other jurisdiction in which chiropractic registration/licensure has been held
    • Applicants are subject to a criminal record check and to review of chiropractic disciplinary records such as CINBAD;
    • Criminal Record Check through CSI Inc for Canadian Citizens  http://www.csiscreening.com
    • Applicants who are non-Canadian Citizens must complete International Criminal Records Check CSI INTERNATIONAL/ US
    • Successful applicants will be granted conditional registration pending a Peer Assessment procedure during their initial 12 months of practice. Full registration will be subject to successful completion of the Peer Assessment process.


    Chiropractors previously registered in Canada who have been non-practicing for a period of less than five (5) years must comply with the following:

    • Applicants must complete the prescribed application form and pay all required fees;
    • Applicants must provide a letter of good standing from the regulatory body of all jurisdictions in which prior registration was held in Canada and any other jurisdictions in which the practitioner has registered in the interim;
    • Applicants are subject to a criminal or disciplinary records check such as CINBAD;
    • Applicants must successfully complete and pass an examination reflecting, at minimum, the guidelines, the regulations and the Chiropractic Act of Nova Scotia; and,
    • Applicants must complete twenty-four (24) hours of Board selected continuing education for each year (including any part of) that the applicant was not engaged in the practice of chiropractic.

    Note: Should an applicant be unable to meet the required Continuing Education (CE) standard, the Board may consider granting conditional registration for a period of one  year during which the applicant must complete any remaining portion of this requirement. These CE hours are in addition to required hours of all registrants for the first two-year period of registration. 

    Chiropractors previously registered in Canada who have been non-practicing for a period of more than five (5) years must comply with the following:

    • Applicants must complete the prescribed application form and pay all required fees;
    • Applicants must provide a letter of good standing from the regulatory body of all jurisdictions in which prior registration was held in Canada and any other jurisdictions in which the practitioner has registered in the interim;
    • Applicants are subject to a criminal or disciplinary records check such as CINBAD;
    • Applicants must successfully complete an examination reflecting, at minimum, the guidelines, regulations and the Chiropractic Act of Nova Scotia; and,
    • Applicants must complete a minimum of four hundred (400) hours of chiropractic continuing education as determined by the Board prior to re- registration.

    When all requirements have been completed the applicant will receive an offer of registration and proceed as outlined below.  Successful candidates who do not wish to practice upon completion of the requirements, should be aware that the CSE results are only valid for a one (1) year period.

    Decisions Timeline

    • The application and all required documentation must be received prior to being scheduled for a JE examination. (this includes the notarized original application form).
    • Applicants are told if they pass or fail the Jurisprudence Exam of the NSCC the same day they sit for the exam.

    Response to Inquiries from Applicants

    The Nova Scotia College of Chiropractors endeavors to answer all communication within two business days.

    The Jurisprudence and Ethics exams are marked immediately after candidates write the exam and candidates know if they have passed or failed the same day. The exam consists of 50 question multiple choice questions. 

    Accommodation of Individuals with Physical or Mental Disabilities

    If an applicant has qualified for reasonable testing accommodation for persons with disabilities through the Canadian Chiropractic Examining Board (CCEB), they are asked to inform the NSCC Office early in the registration process if they will be requesting special accommodation for the NSCC’s Jurisprudence and Ethics Exam.     Response to Inquiries from Applicants

    The Nova Scotia College of Chiropractors endeavors to answer all communication within two business days.

    The Jurisprudence and Ethics exams are marked immediately after candidates write the exam and candidates know if they have passed or failed the same day.  Applicants who do not pass may request to re-write the exam at a later date (additional exam fee's apply).

    Unsuccessful applicants to the Nova Scotia College of Chiropractors may submit a written request to refer their application to the Credentials Committee. They may also request an opportunity to appear in front of the Credentials Committee. This request will be granted within 30 days and the applicant may appear with legal counsel.

    The original decision maker, the Registrar, is not on the Credentials Committee.
